Around the clock, seven days a week, Metro Atlanta's Red Cross is here to help families and the community prevent, prepare for, and deal with devastating emergencies. On average,
three families each day turn to the Red Cross for the support and encouragement they need.
Last year, your Red Cross responded to 697 local
disasters, typically house and apartment fires, but also events ranging from flooding to small-plane crashes to hazardous-material releases. Caring volunteers provided immediate help for 4,970 people, including shelter, food, new clothing, the replacement of eyeglasses and hearing aids, and other basic necessities.
And when tens of thousands of hurricane evacuees arrived in Georgia, Metro Atlanta's Red Cross
coordinated the largest Red Cross disaster relief effort in state
history, distributing $44.4 million in financial assistance to 43,040 families statewide.
Your Red Cross also provides the following local services:
. emergency preparedness information and presentations
. lifesaving training in first aid, CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator
(AED), lifeguarding/water safety, and HIV/AIDS prevention
. emergency communications and referrals for military families
. leadership development programs for young people
Your support is needed now, more than ever before
Our community counts on the Red Cross and the Red Cross, in turn, relies on your support to do its lifesaving work in metro Atlanta.
Though chartered by Congress to provide a system of national and international relief during times of disaster and to provide emergency services for the U.S. military; the Red Cross is not a government agency and receives no general operating funding from federal, state, or local government agencies. Red Cross chapters must raise funds for local disaster relief from their own communities.
By supporting your Red Cross, you are helping to ensure a healthier, safer community for everyone. Thank you. |
